About Kate Laufert

I am an American yoga teacher and artist living in Rome, Italy with my husband, son, and our globe trotting dog.  My family and I spent four years in South America, which has been the greatest influence on my work.  It is a world filled with intense color and life.  Like me, my family, and my paintings.

I paint with water soluble oil paints because they are healthier for me, my family, and the environment. I frequently use recycled materials, such as cabinet doors and shelves, as surfaces for my paintings. In this way, I give discarded objects new life.

Once we moved to Rome I took a two year long hiatus from painting to study yoga, get my certification, and focus on teaching.  As fulfilling as practicing and teaching yoga are, it always felt like something was missing. Thank you to my wonderful husband for fixing my easel and putting me back in front of it, where I belong.
